Mission Statement
To alter the personal stories of 100 underprivileged and average students from across Kenya through our scholarship and mentorship programs.
Hera Foundation
HERA, which means ‘Love’ in Luo language best summarizes the Foundation’s mission which is based on the scripture verse, 1Cor. 13:13.
HERA is registered as a non-profit organization in Kenya and has supported over 20 beneficiaries since its inception in 2011. The Foundation started off supporting teenage mothers and young boys and girls living in single-parent homes. Today the organization recruits beneficiaries from all over the country recognizing the need for a balanced society supported by strong family units.
The organization offers high school scholarships and mentorship to students with average (Grade C) academic performance. Our objective is to fill the gap left by most foundations, which target bright but needy students. We also have a robust mentorship program to support the students’ academic, spiritual, and emotional progress. We believe in the leadership potential of each beneficiary in his or her sphere of influence.
Why Us Hera Foundation
- Well structured board with members from diverse professional backgrounds.
- Clear long-term vision.
- Fully functional secretariat with clear processes and implementation plans for the effective delivery of programs.
- Effective and well-structured tools for program implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
Our Programs
Our objective is to ensure all its beneficiaries are supported financially and emotionally. We prepare and encourage alumni to give back to their communities.
Scholarships Program
At HERA Foundation Kenya, we believe that any young person can achieve their full academic potential with the right support and guidance. We place a special emphasis on supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who have average academic performance i.e. a mean grade of C. Applicants to our scholarship program are required to complete our application form to be considered. Once admitted, the beneficiaries should maintain a mean grade of at least a C throughout their scholarship with the Foundation. Failure to do so could lead to remedial action including dismissal from the program
Volunteers / Mentorship Program
Mentorship days carry various themes and are slated for the first Saturday of every school holiday. The volunteers meet with their individual mentee for a one-to-one session and assess the academic, spiritual and emotional progress of the beneficiaries using the HERA Mentorship Tools. The beneficiaries also have peer-to-peer mentorship sessions so as to learn from each other. School visits happen once every year where the mentors visit their individual mentees’ schools and have discussions with all the relevant stakeholders on how effectively to positively continue impacting the lives of the students. Mentors also make monthly mentorship calls to their beneficiaries. Home visits are done in instances where the academic, spiritual and emotional progress of the beneficiary requires specific attention. You can volunteer. to assist in our mentorship program by applying here.
